About Niles Haymer

Niles Haymer is a native of Baton Rouge, earning his Juris Doctorate degree from Southern University Law Center in 2003, where he was member of the Southern University Law Review and the American Trial Lawyers' Association Mock Trial Team. He was also a recipient of the Russell B. Long Federal Court Award and Juvenile Clinic Student Attorney of the Year. Haymer earned his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Southern University in 2000, graduating with the highest GPA in the Nelson Mandela School of Public Policy all while serving as Student Government Association President. Niles has been a licensed attorney for over 20 years serving as both prosecutor and defense attorney.

During his time as Assistant City Prosecutor, Niles led the Rapid Case Assessment Team (RCAT) initiative in Baton Rouge City Court. The RCAT initiative resulted in resolving 80% of the cases on the defendants’ first appearance, clearing up the courts backlog, resulting in a smoother case process.

Niles places a significant value in public service. He is the 2nd generation of his family to have served in the City Prosecutor’s Office. His father was one of the first black Assistant City Prosecutors in Baton Rouge in the late 1970s.

Niles believes that all judges follow the law and apply it in a manner that is consistent and fair. If elected, Niles will continue to bring honesty, integrity, and best practices to Baton Rouge City Court, and will work diligently and efficiently to retain the respect and trust of those who appear before the Court.

Niles and his wife, Shermaine, have been married for 18 years and have 3 children in East Baton Rouge public schools. They are members of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Historic South Baton Rouge.
